The Los Angeles Rams fell off a cliff in 2022. A year after winning the Super Bowl – and while expected to compete at the top end of the league again – they stumbled to an ugly 5-12 season. This was the Rams’ first losing season since 2016, and they set a record with the most losses of any defending Super Bowl champion. Things must improve in 2023 for a team not used to this type of season under head coach Sean McVay.
The Rams first home game will indicate how they will look this fall. They face the defending NFC West champion San Francisco 49ers at SoFi Stadium on Sunday, September 17. It is also the most expensive ticket of the season, with Immortal Seats showing the cheapest ticket available, sitting at around $175. Compare that to their next divisional game, a tilt on Sunday, October 15, against the Arizona Cardinals. Tickets for that game are available for under $50, a stunning price for an NFL divisional game.

How long does the rebuild take?
The NFL is a weird league. Teams have a Super Bowl window, and then they fall away from the head of the table. Even so, the Rams decline has been dramatic. So many veterans have gone from their Super Bowl-winning group. The likes of Jalen Ramsey, Leonard Floyd, Odell Beckham Jr., and Robert Woods have all left the building. The Rams were ‘win now’ for half a decade, meaning that draft picks were traded and heavy contracts were given to players for a few years of service. Their current roster is the result.
It is a roster that was rated as the 31st best in the league by Pro Football Focus this offseason, with only the Cardinals ranked lower. That is despite having Aaron Donald, Cooper Kupp, and Matt Stafford on it. Those three have to stay healthy and perform at their peaks. If not, this group will struggle to manage half a dozen wins in 2023.
