Their crushing 128-122 overtime loss at the hands of the Boston Celtics on Thursday night means that the 2-29 Pisotson have now lost 28 games in a row this season. They have already claimed the single-season loss record, and now they are just one defeat away from making it 29 negative results in a row and setting an all-time record in the process.
On Saturday, December 30, the Pistons host the 12-18 Toronto Raptors at Little Caesars Arena in MoTown, knowing a win would prevent them from having the worst run in league history. The Pistons are in a terrible position. This is clearly a bad team, though individuals like Cade Cunningham have had big nights during this torrid streak. The problem is that the Pistons are getting the best shot of any NBA team, typically reserved for the best squads in the league. The fear of being the team that loses to the Pistons, the team that ends their streak, means that games against Detroit have become much more important to opponents than playing a lowly NBA team usually would. It is a double-edged sword of being bad and facing motivated opponents, which the Pistons will continue to face until they finally get their third win of the season.
