Synth-pop remains relevant, and Baltimore exponents Future Islands will be on the road late this spring with a set of North American dates in addition to their previously announced world tour. The first North American leg begins with a June 19 gig at the Roadrunner in Boston and ends at MTellus in Montreal on July 6.
Future Island then heads back to Europe – where they also play in May – before returning for a second set of shows in North America. This set begins on September 10 at the Malkin Bowl (Stanley Park) in Vancouver, where they will play back-to-back gigs on consecutive nights. The second run of shows goes through a September 28 gig at the Longhorn Ballroom in Dallas.

The tour supports Future Islands’ seventh studio album, People Who Aren’t There Anymore, which was released in January. A band that typically receives more love overseas than in their native US, this album peaked at No. 7 on the UK Album chart and No. 33 in Portugal. Future Islands’ breakout album was their fourth, Singles, with the 2014 work spawning “Seasons (Waiting On You), which was given song of the year awards by music magazines Pitchfork and NME.
