New York City FC began its MLS journey at the start of the 2015 season as the league’s second team in the Big Apple. This created an instant rivalry with the New York Red Bulls, a match that takes place at Yankee Stadium on Saturday, September 16, this season. The historic rivalry between New York and Boston also carries over onto the pitch, so another game to watch for in 2023 is when NYCFC hosts the New England Revolution on Saturday, June 3.
Here is the biggest key for NYC FC based on their start to the 2023 season.

Is there a striker incoming?
New York City FC has all the component pieces to make a run at the MLS Cup this season. They are fifth in the Eastern Conference after eight rounds of play, well within striking distance of those above them. The issue is that they are a little lightweight up front, and they could use a natural goalscorer as the final piece of their championship-chasing puzzle. The primary transfer window for MLS clubs closes next Monday, so don’t be at all shocked if a new name is announced between now and then to help on a team that has scored just nine times so far this MLS season.
