New England Fan Fest 9 is pleased to announce that WWE Hall of Famer Ron Simmons has signed to appear at the show on February 17 at the Crowne Plaza Providence-Warwick.
Simmons was a monster on the football field before he ever thought about becoming a professional wrestler. His Florida State Seminoles went 39-8 during the nose guard’s college career, finishing in the Associated Press Top 20 three times during that period as Simmons was a consensus All-American in both 1979 and 1980. After a brief stint in the NFL, Simmons joined Jim Crockett Promotions, where he would go on a long undefeated streak before joining Butch Reed to form the tag team Doom.
After a run with the WCW.NWA World Tag Team belts, Simmons broke out and became the first black WCW World Heavyweight Champion. Simmons held the strap for five months before going on to successful spells in ECW, NJPW, and WWE. Most modern fans will know Simmons for his work during the attitude era as part of the Nation of Domination and then with Bradshaw as a member of the APA. While these were huge roles during a wrestling boom period, his work in the 80s is the legacy for which Simmons will never be forgotten.
Simmons joins an ever-growing list of superstars signed to appear at New England Fan Fest 9. He will be joined by trailblazing women’s wrestling icon Trish Stratus and industry veteran Teddy Long, with more Superstars set to be announced in the coming weeks.
