Can Cristina Espinoza keep up his pace?
The ‘Quakes have a legitimate candidate for 2023 MLS MVP in Argentine winner Cristian Espinoza. He is tied for the MLS lead in goals this season with eight and has a habit of scoring at big times in big games. Espinoza scored twice earlier this week against Los Angeles FC in a 2-1 win for the Earthquakes, handing LAFC their first defeat of the season in the process.
San Jose hasn’t been battling at the top end of the league for a long time. They haven’t posted a winning record in ten years, but with five wins, three draws, and three defeats in their first 11 games this season, they are in the thick of the Western Conference playoff race. If Espinoza keeps scoring, there is no doubt that this is a team that can do some damage in those playoffs this October.
