Ricky Watters is widely regarded as one of the best NFL players not yet in the Hall of Fame. Watters, the No. 45 pick of the 1991 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame, went on to star for the 49ers, Eagles, and Seahawks over a ten-year NFL career. Watters excelled for the 49ers during their Super Bowl XXIX winning season and was a five-time Pro Bowler. Watters was even dominant at the end of his career, doing enough during his four years in Seattle to be named to the Seahawks 35th Anniversary Team.
Watters was a hybrid back before the term existed. He finished his career with 10,643 yards rushing, good for 24th all-time in the NFL. Watters added another 4,248 yards receiving, and he totaled 91 touchdowns. His 14,891 yards from scrimmage are 19th all-time among running backs, with 14 above him either in the Hall of Fame or expected to get in when they become eligible (Frank Gore & Adrian Peterson).
