This is the first time that UFC has held an event in Canada since September 2019, when UFC Fight Night: Cowboy vs. Gaethje took place at this same venue. This was originally supposed to be the trilogy fight between Brazilian Nunes and American Julianna Pena. The two fought at UFC 269 and UFC 277 – winning one bout each – but Pena had to pull out of this in early May thanks to broken rips. She is replaced by Mexican fighter Aldana, who puts her 14-6 record on the line against the 22-5 Nunes.
This will certainly be a step up in class for Aldana. Nunes is widely viewed as the greatest women’s MMA fighter of all time and currently holds the belts at Bantamweight and Featherweight.
