The 2023 Royal Rumble and its epic final segment that saw Sami Zayn turn on ‘The Bloodline’ is fresh in the memory, but the WWE machine keeps marching on. The next Premim Live Event (PPV in old money) is the Elimination Chamber, which will be held on Saturday, February 18, at the Centre Bell in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Elimination Chamber is a fun gimmick, but its placement between the Rumble and WrestleMania in April always causes some logistical issues regarding how feuds are booked. WWE is booking around that this year by having the Chamber match be for the US Title instead of Roman’s belt, with Austin Theory defending against four upper mid-carders and a bonafide superstar in Seth Rollins.
One of the big rumors currently surrounding the Chamber is the potential that a couple of WWE Hall of Famers will be returning to action for the first time in a long time. Lita ran out and saved Becky Lynch in her Hell in a Cell match against Bayley this week on Raw. Lynch was in big trouble because of the numbers game, with Damage CTRL members IYO SKY and Dakota Kai giving their faction leader the upper hand.
The current rumor is that Trish Stratus – who last wrestled in the company back in 2019 – will make a return of her own next Monday night. This would set up a six-woman tag at Elimination Chamber, with Trish (a proud Canadian) teaming with Lita and Becky to face the heel trio.
I am also intrigued by the aforementioned Elimination Chamber match. Rollins would be a great US Champ, but the belt feels a little below his level. Bronson Reed will do some cool stuff but isn’t ready, Damian Priest will have some help along the way from stablemates with Judgment Day, while Montez Ford is a wildcard that the company seems to love. My choice here would be Johnny Gargano. It would be the culmination of a six-month arc that Gargano has been on since arriving back in WWE, and it feels like the right time to put gold on his waist at the main roster level.
